Android Reloaded!

The next clip of ammunition for Google's Android handsets is ready to fire. Weeks after the release of the Droid X, news is circulating about two new Android handsets hitting the market. The Droid 2 (Aug 2010) is the second revision to the original Droid from Verizon, it still incorporates a keyboard for those who need it, along with a faster processor. Also the Droid Pro (Nov 2010) which takes on a Motorola Q type design, 1.3ghz cpu, 4in screen and native Android 2.2, same goes for the Droid 2. It seems there is a new Android device every three months. This to me is a reason to go with the IPhone but at the same time the more Android sets that are out the more users will grow accustomed to some type of handset from the Android Army.

HDBaseT- All in one solution.

HDBaseT is a ethernet based technology that will be able to incorporate multiple cables in one. HDBaseT technology will provide 5play convergence to include uncompressed full HD video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet(Internet connection) and various control signals. This type of connection would make it much easier for users to connect tv's, Bluray players etc assuming that users have a network connection close to their television sets. The 1.0 version has been finalized and is supported by companies like LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures and Valens Semiconductor. Full scale rollout 2011, with limited products in 2010. A complete comparison chart to other cabling can be found here.

Those of you into audio video will love this super thin cable that can be folded many times and can withstand high heat. Wiretape was announced at E3 2010 and claims it is the world's thinnest cable. It will be available in September 2010 and will allow you to make various connections like HDMI. VGA, USB, RJ-45 etc. Wiretape can also be hidden by painting over it or installing under carpet. I for one will definitely try this product in order to make flat panel installations cleaner as well as connecting any other components.

Week of E3 part III (Sony)

Sony press conference introduced the Playstation Move, which is new hardware that allows a player to control the game play with two new remotes that look like wands (similar to a Wii remote...) Sony also demoed various new game titles that will be released later this year such as Sorcery, Kung Fu Rider, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, Killzone 3, Socom 4: U.S. Navy Seals and LittleBigPlanet 2 just to name a few. you can check full videos of these demos here. Also check out the full press conference at Gamespot's site. Sony has also incorporated 3D gaming into the PS3 with titles launching early next 2011.

Gran Turismo 5 Coming Soon

Week of E3 part II (Nintendo)

Nintendo also had a big presence at E3, unveiling it's new Nintendo 3DS. Which is a 3D version of the DS that does not require 3D glasses. The 3DS has a Peralax Barrier display which creates two images at once giving the user a 3 dimensional view of the images on the screen. The top screen is the 3D screen while the bottom remains the touch screen.

Nintendo also announced some new Wii game titles that include The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword(Wii), Mario Sports Mix(Wii), Golden Sun: Dark Dawn(DS), Epic Mickey(Wii), Kirby's Epic Yarn, Metroid: Other M(Wii) and Donkey Kong Country Returns(Wii)

Week of E3! (Microsoft)

For those who did not know the Electronic Entertainment Expo took place this week in Los Angeles CA. Major announcements from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft flooded the news stream. Monday the 14th started off with Microsoft announcing its new Kinect hardware for the Xbox 360. The new hardware allows users to play new games without a physical controller, the controller would now be you body. You can actually stand in front of the tv and move around the  on the screen that repeats your every move in real-time. This technology takes what we know from the Wii to a whole new level game play. Among the Kinect news Microsoft Also announced a slim Xbox 360 that will retail for $300.

The new Xbox has a 250GB removable hard drive, integrated 802.11n wifi, 5 USB ports and an HDMI out. Oh and good news no red LEDs so no red ring of death.... The new Xbox 360 looks better than its predecessors and is "whisper quiet". On sale now!

P2P sites marked for death?

Both the Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus and RIAA held a press conference today of which six p2p web sites were listed as the worst p2p sites. Among the names on the list were: In first place The Pirate Bay of course, then in close second Isohunt, recently released of infringement responsibility is Rapidshare. The last three spots were taken by Ukraine's Mp3fiesta, Luxemburg's and lastly China's Baidu. I was surprised not to see other regulars like Demonoid, Oink, Allofmp3, LimeWire, Napster, Mininova, this list can go on. But the interesting thing is that sites like these have been dropping like flies in US and foreign courts, the recent obituaries include Newsbin, The Pirate Bay and Limewire. The powers at hand insist on pursuing individuals that download illegal content from these sites simply by ip address (which is ridiculous). This is going to be an ongoing issue and already has caused some users to pay up, definitely expect to see more news on this subject in the near future. For more specifics on the legalities check out Ars Technica's article here.

Microsoft's first stage of Zune based smartphones.

Look out for Microsoft's first line of Zune inter-grated cellphones. Microsoft announced that the Kin1 and Kin2 will be available on the Verizon Wireless network some time in May 2010. The Kin1 being the smaller of the two has a 5mp camera and the Kin2 with a 8mp camera can shoot HD video. The phones also includes accessibility to a web space that automatically display all your phones photos and videos for easy viewing. Its not the Iphone but Microsoft is making it clear that these devices are for specific users that active in social networking. Credit to Cnet for the Photos.

FastMac's Dual Usb/Dual Socket Power Outlet

A great replacement to any regular power outlet. The TruePower UCS USB power outlet is available at Fastmac's site for about $20. I use it to power a set of USB speakers in order to free up ports on my desktop. Enjoy!
